is it uncommon to have a love hate relationship with a tattoo (long)?

I got a tattoo almost a year ago and I do like it but I really hate where I decided to put it. I like it because it represents my polynesian culture and its very unique but i got it on my leg and now I refuse to wear shorts and definitely no to any dresses! I'm 19 and I realize how completely and utterly ignorant and irresponsible I was being when I decided to get it (and where i got it) But sometimes I love it and I'm not concerned about showing it but other times I hate it and would rather cut it out with a knife than show anyone!

I was and still am very self conscious and I think if I were more confident in my skin I'd show it off more frequently. And I know drugs without prescription I should have waited until I was much older and more mature knowing how indecisive I am. But now I'm constantly thinking about how unprofessional it is to have a large tattoo in such a visible spot ----please no reminders =( ---- It's really big so I'd really rather wait until tattoo removal was more guaranteed so I don't spend thousands of dollars on something that doesn't look right. Everyone I know has lots of tattoos so it truly never crossed my mind that I'd regret it.

Anywho back to my question lol, do you have or do you know anyone who has a love hate relationship with a tattoo? Or is that really odd and uncommon?

I mean I like my tattoo (sometimes) but I don't love it.
